Terms of Use

About these terms

These terms cover your use of houstonlawyersassociation.org (the "site"), run by the Houston Lawyers Association ("HLA," "we," "us"). By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and is part of these terms.

No legal advice, no lawyer-client relationship

HLA is a bar association. The site gives general information about HLA, its events and its members. It is not legal advice, and using the site or contacting HLA does not create a lawyer-client relationship. If you need legal help, contact a licensed attorney. Listing in the attorney directory is not a recommendation or endorsement by HLA of any lawyer.

Membership

Membership is governed by HLA's Bylaws and by the decisions of its board. When you apply you certify that your application is truthful and that you are licensed and in good standing, a law student in good standing, or a paralegal or legal professional, as the application states. You agree to uphold the Bylaws and the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct as they apply to you. HLA may approve, decline, suspend or end a membership under its Bylaws.

Your account

You sign in with your own email address or Google account. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, give us accurate information, and tell us if you think your account has been used without your permission. You are responsible for activity under your account. Access to member areas and members-only events depends on your membership standing.

Dues, payments and refunds

Dues are set by HLA and shown on the membership pages, and they cover HLA's bar year, which begins June 1. Card payments are processed by Stripe. Dues can also be paid by check or other offline methods arranged with the office. Questions about a payment or a refund can be sent to HLA through the contact form on this site. Donations to the Houston Lawyers Foundation are handled separately by that organization.

The attorney directory

Listing is voluntary and by request. You decide to be listed from your portal, and HLA officers review each listing before it is public. You promise that what you submit about yourself is accurate and that you are authorized to practice the services you list. You can remove your listing at any time. HLA may decline, edit or remove a listing, for example if it is inaccurate or the member's standing changes.

Events and RSVPs

Some events are free to sign up for on the site, some are members-only, and some link to an outside registration or ticket page run by another provider. Event details, dates and capacity can change.

What you may and may not do

  • Do not use the site to break the law, to harass anyone, or to submit false information.
  • Do not try to get into accounts, admin areas or data that are not yours, or to disrupt or overload the site.
  • Do not copy the directory or member information in bulk, or use it for unsolicited marketing.

Content and ownership

The site's text, graphics, logos and design belong to HLA or are used with permission. You may view and share pages for personal, non-commercial use and for HLA-related purposes. HLA's name and logo may not be used without written permission. What you submit to us (such as directory details) remains yours, and you give HLA permission to use it as described in the Privacy Policy and these terms.

Links to other sites

The site links to outside pages, including payment, ticketing, scholarship application and partner pages. HLA does not control those sites and is not responsible for them.

Disclaimers and limits

The site is provided as is. HLA works to keep it accurate and available, but does not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms. Last updated October 19, 2026. Questions about these terms can be sent to HLA through the contact form on this site.
