Houston Volunteer Lawyers
Free civil legal services
The mission of Houston Volunteer Lawyers is to provide free civil legal services to low-income people in Harris County and to promote volunteerism among lawyers.

Lawyer referral
Established in 1958, the HLRS is a non-profit, community service program of the legal profession. It is sponsored by nine local bar associations, is certified by the State Bar of Texas, and is one of a select few programs nationwide that meets the standards of the American Bar Association.

Free dispute resolution
The Dispute Resolution Center is sponsored by the Houston Bar Association and funded through the Harris County Courts System. The DRC has been helping people resolve disputes since 1980, and services are free to residents of Harris County, Texas.

Domestic violence services
AVDA works to end family violence in the Greater Houston area. Its legal services cover protective orders, divorce, and child support and custody at low or no cost, alongside free trauma counseling and a battering intervention and prevention program. AVDA serves all victims regardless of citizenship status. Call 713-224-9911.

Founded in 1925, the National Bar Association is the nation's oldest and largest national network of predominantly African-American attorneys and judges, representing the interests of approximately 66,000 lawyers, judges, law professors, and law students. The NBA is organized around 23 substantive law sections, 10 divisions, 12 regions, and over 80 affiliate chapters. HLA is proud to be an affiliate as the Houston chapter.
