Affiliate Chapter of The National Bar Association
Dear Members and Supporters of the Houston Lawyers Association:
The Houston Lawyers Association, an affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association, was founded in 1955 to address the particular needs of African-American lawyers and the African-American community at large. However, membership is open, and all are encouraged and welcome to join, as we are not restrictive based on race, creed, color, sex, religion or national origin. Our expansive membership includes the following: solo practitioners (criminal and civil), attorneys in small to large law firms, attorneys in corporations, state, federal and other governmental agencies, law professors, law students, and members of the judiciary.
The Houston Lawyers Association, under the leadership of President Robin Burgess, will continue to serve those who otherwise may not have representation, through our community service and outreach opportunities. In addition to service to others, membership in the Houston Lawyers Association will allow you to enhance your professional growth, and provide professional networking opportunities.
We hope that you will join us as a member and in our mission. Here are 7 reasons to join today:
1 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses - 10+ hours of FREE CLE
2 Networking - Network with Attorneys and Other Like-Minded Professionals
3 Mentoring - Mentor junior lawyers and/or be mentored by more seasoned lawyers
4 Advocacy and Service - Give back to the community through legal clinics and seminars.
5 Referrals - Gain referrals from members and through the HLA Attorney Directory.
6 Access - Connect with Houston's prominent legal professionals, including judges, officials, and power-players.
7 BECOME A PART OF A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY OF BLACK LAWYERS!
Please consider this a personal invitation to join our professional community. Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at Haynes & Boone, LLP. The annual fee for each class of membership for the 2017-2018 bar year is listed below:
